The Cal Poly Winter Jazz Concert will will feature performances by Cal Poly’s University Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz Ensemble and four Cal Poly Jazz Combos.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble’s set will include “My Funny Valentine” by Richard Rodgers, Rube Bloom’s “Give Me the Simple Life” arranged by Jennifer Barnes, and Stevie Wonder’s R&B and soul classic “As” arranged by Tim Brent.
The Jazz Combos will play a mix of jazz standards and original student arrangements, and the University Jazz Band will perform big band arrangements by Michael Mossman, Thad Jones, Ellen Rowe, Steven Feifke and others.
Jamaal Baptiste directs the University Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Dylan Johnson directs the Jazz Combos.
Patrons receive a 20% discount when buying season tickets to four Music Department events through the Performing Arts Ticket Office; Cal Poly faculty and staff receive a 20% discount on individual tickets.
The event is sponsored by Cal Poly’s Music Department, College of Liberal Arts and Instructionally Related Activities program.
