SLO Symphony: Celebrating Our Artists

Celebrating Our Artists conducted by Maestro Andrew Sewell includes the SLO Youth Symphony and highlights SLO Symphony musicians Concertmaster Emily Lanzone (Los Osos), Principal Second Violin Timothy Shanks (San Luis Obispo), Oboe Heidi Butterfield (Nipomo), Principal Oboe and English Horn Jessica Hoffman (San Luis Obispo), and Principal Flute Marley Eder (Los Angeles), performing Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor, Cowell’s Hymn and Fuguing Tune No. 10, Farrenc’s Nonet in E Flat, Honegger’s Sonata da Camera for Flute, English Horn, and Strings, and Warlock’s Capriol Suite. In a program featuring strings, it provides an opportunity for our youth orchestra string players to play Side by side for Warlock’s Capriol Suite. In a program traversing several classical eras from Bach to Cowell, there is something for everyone. For the novice, French composer, Louise Farrenc’s Nonet from 1848 is an example of French Romanticism for large chamber ensemble, while Henry Cowell’s Hymn and Fuguing Tune No. 10, from the early 1950s, takes the form of a folksong for oboe and strings. Arthur Honegger’s Sonata da Camera looks back in time using an old Baroque form, to feature flute, English Horn and strings. Programs are subject to change.

Sponsored by Jeff and Melodee Brady.
