About the PAC

The Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo is world-class venue showcasing sweeping musicals and cutting-edge music for over 25 years. Recently updated with a state-of-art sound system, lighting and seating, the PAC has not only harnessed the transformative power of performance, but has also become the hub of the community. Located on the beautiful Central Coast of California, on the California Polytechnic State University campus, the PAC is comprised of several venues, including the majestic 1,286-seat Harold Miossi Hall, the 498-seat Alex & Faye Spanos Theatre, the 180-seat classroom Philips Hall, and the multi-purpose Pavilion, which holds up to 400 people. The PAC transcends all boundaries to enrich the cultural lives of theatre goers, including offering a free, community-sponsored, matinee program for local students across the several counties. This opportunity has given thousands of school-age children a chance to experience artistic greatness, first-hand. From electrifying onstage artistry to fostering intellectual growth, it’s no wonder the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo has earned its reputation as one of the region’s crown jewels, offering spectacular performances and drawing crowds year after year.

Artistic Mission

  • To actively encourage full, broad-based facility use, featuring a schedule of varied, high quality arts events designed to serve diverse audience interests.

  • To actively support local arts groups, providing a range of quality services which encourage and enable them to reach their maximum potential.

  • To promote use of the Center and its services to potential clients from outside the community, in a manner which supports and enhances local arts groups.

  • To provide a consistent, high quality experience for the Center’s patrons and clients.

Opening in September 1996, the Performing Arts Center was a unique venture between the City of San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly State University, and private fundraising through the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center. Generous community members, through the Foundation, contributed $12.5 million of the $30 million needed to complete the building.

The completion of the Performing Arts Center provided a venue that has enabled our resident performing arts companies to grow and mature in sophistication and capability, now routinely executing world-class events. The exhilaration of performing in Harold Miossi Hall is an unforgettable experience for community artists. The partnership that formed to create the building and maintain it since 1996 is still effective today. The Foundation, the City and Cal Poly continue to keep the hall as affordable and accessible as possible for our community groups and audience members, while keeping the facility in impeccable condition.
