YOPAC

Youth Outreach for the Performing Arts Center (also known as YOPAC), makes it possible for school age children to attend matinee performances at the Performing Arts Center at a reduced rate or free and for local students, such as middle & high school bands and choirs, to perform on stage in the Center’s main hall. Last year, over 20,000 students attended school performances and 6,000 children performed in Harman Hall as a direct result of this program.

The YOPAC program is responsible for several ongoing programs:

School Matinee Performances:

YOPAC currently works with organizations that present performances for school age students (K-12). Performances are held in the Christopher Cohan Center, Alex & Faye Spanos Theatre and in the Center’s Pavilion.

Pacific Repertory Opera
Poly Arts for Youth
SLO Community Concerts Association
American Dance of SLO
Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo
California Theatre Center
American Theater Arts for Youth

While YOPAC does not sell tickets to these performances, it helps to subsidize costs, works directly with the presenting organizations to schedule performances, sends parking vouchers, and creates seating assignments. In addition, YOPAC assists in promoting all school matinee performances at the Performing Arts Center.

Performances by Young Artists Onstage:

YOPAC has created a program to enable more local school children use of the stage of the Christopher Cohan Center. Organizations featuring school age performers, such as school sponsored choirs and bands, community dance groups and the youth symphony, are able to perform in the Center at a special reduced rental rate.
